The Way Bohemian Rhapsody Recreates Freddie Mercury's Vocals Likely Isn't What You Think
Musical films are all the rage right now: we're still drying our tears after catching A Star Is Born in theaters, we're looking forward to 2019's Elton John biopic Rocketman, and the trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody has us freaking out. The movie is based off Queen's legacy - specifically frontman Freddie Mercury and his effervescent, larger-than-life character. We were absolutely enthralled by the trailer, and we can't believe how spot-on Rami Malek's (Mr. Robot) portrayal of Mercury appears to be.

Malek has expressed how terrified he was of taking on the role, though we can't imagine anyone else portraying the late musician.

"When I got this role, I thought, 'Oh, my God, this could be a career-defining performance.' And about two minutes later, I thought, 'This could be a career killer,'" Malek told the Los Angeles Times. "I'm not kidding. You don't get this right and it's trouble.

How ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Crossed $750 Million at Global Box Office – Even Without China

Fox’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” has become an unlikely box office champion — showing surprising legs both in English-language territories and overseas.

In its first 12 weeks of release, the biopic of the British rock band Queen and frontman Freddie Mercury has grossed more than $772 million worldwide, with $574 million coming from overseas — even without a release in China.

Fresh off its Golden Globes wins for Best Motion Picture – Drama and lead actor Rami Malek, “Rhapsody” earned another $2.2 million domestically this weekend.

Moreover, the Fox release has been one of the studio’s most profitable hits: With a production budget of $52 million, it’s the only film in the top 15 of 2018 worldwide box office with a budget of less than $100 million.

Why Queen Was, and Still Is, Even Bigger Than ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

Why Queen Was, and Still Is, Even Bigger Than ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
Bohemian Rhapsody” is, by any measure, gargantuan. It’s at the $195 million mark at the U.S. box office and just got a turbo boost heading toward the magic $200M mark, with a post-Golden Globes expansion back into 1,300 theaters set for Friday, including a new “sing-along” version set for more than 750 screens. Its foreign grosses sit at $553 million. That’s big — bigger than the robot on the cover of “News of the World.” Bigger than Brian May’s stacks of Vox amps. Bigger than Rami Malek’s dentures. Big, we tell you.

But you know what’s even more behemoth than “Bohemian”? Queen.

Maybe that seems like an obvious point, but maybe not. There is a fair amount of myth-making in “Bohemian Rhapsody,” as detractors focused on ways in which the story departs from the historical record have pointed out. But there are some myths around the film itself, and

Rocketman Photos Reveal Taron Egerton's Elton John Transformation
New images from Rocketman feature Taron Egerton's radical transformation into Elton John. The biopic about John is scheduled to hit theaters on May 31st and the promotional campaign is starting to roll again after the first teaser for the movie was released back in October. Hopefully, this means that a full trailer is on its way, now that Bohemian Rhapsody is preparing to hit Blu-ray and digital services. We've all heard of Freddy vs. Jason, but it looks like a new battle is coming later this year with Freddie vs. Elton.

One of the new images from Rocketman shows Taron Egerton as Elton John during his now-legendary 1975 performance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Egerton can be seen wearing a sparkly Dodgers uniform, just like the one that John wore during the performance, a look that has been copied too many times to count since then. John was able

‘Rocketman’ Photos: Taron Egerton Channels Elton John In Biopic

‘Rocketman’ Photos: Taron Egerton Channels Elton John In Biopic
There’s a new biopic about a revered British pop star from the 1970s who assaulted the charts worldwide while exuding style, charisma and sheer innate talent. But this one hasn’t made more than $700 million.

Given the massive and unprecedented global succuss of Bohemian Rhapsody, Paramount must be salivating at the thought of releasing Rocketman, starring the Kingsman franchise’s Taron Egerton as Elton John. And today we get a look at some new photos from the film that hits arenas, er, theaters on May 31. Check them out below; that’s an older one above.

Billed as “an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years,” Dexter Fletcher’s Rocketman — one word, unlike the song title but evoking a superhero — also stars Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard. Lee Hall wrote the script.

Taron Egerton Transforms Into Elton John In New Rocketman Photos

Not to be outdone by Rami Malek and the Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody, Taron Egerton is set to put on his jazziest suit for Rocketman, Paramount’s upcoming Elton John film which is apparently more of a “musical fantasy” than a straight up biopic. Whatever that might mean.

Regardless, things are shaping up well for the project, with the first trailer landing a few months back to a positive reception. And now, to keep the momentum going, the studio’s released a new batch of Rocketman photos, which show off more of Egerton’s transformation into the iconic musician. He looks great, too, and these pics definitely help fuel our excitement to witness his performance on the big screen later this year.

Promising an “uncensored” look into the life and legacy of Elton John, Rocketman will take audiences on a journey through time, culminating in the historic release of the titular song,

Paramount Again Finds 2018 Box Office a ‘Quiet Place’ Despite Hits Like ‘Mission: Impossible’
Even with the massive success of John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place” and the latest installment of Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible” series, Paramount had a mostly flat 2018 at the box office.

Though it crawled up a spot from 2017 to take sixth place in market share, pulling in just over $700 million in domestic box office to date, the Viacom-owned studio still lagged well ahead the five other majors and showed little sign it would reclaim the No. 1 spot it held as recently as 2011.

“It’s a year where they have to take stock and look forward to creating more franchises like ‘Mission: Impossible’ as well as working with filmmakers like John Krasinksi to come up with unexpected hits like ‘A Quiet Place’ that could be hugely profitable for the studio,” comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said.

How ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Costume Designer Julian Day & Star Rami Malek Fashioned A Freddie Mercury That Felt Just Right

How ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Costume Designer Julian Day & Star Rami Malek Fashioned A Freddie Mercury That Felt Just Right
On Bohemian Rhapsody, depicting the rise of Freddie Mercury from outsider status to that of an icon, costume designer Julian Day went after the essence of a figure that was larger than life, seeking to please both legions of diehard Queen fans and his lead actor, Rami Malek. For various reasons, Mercury was a substantially difficult character to take on. As singular of a stage presence as he was, with a uniquely potent global fan base, the musician was as influential in the clothes he wore, as he was in the songs he wrote. “I think he was quite revolutionary,” Day says, “in terms of pushing the boundary of what people hadn’t seen before.”

Going into the project with director Bryan Singer, Day knew he was making a drama, not a documentary, and approached his work as such. Even so, it was of absolute importance to Malek, stepping into a risky role,

Studio fare in 2019 might be dominated by Disney blockbusters like “The Lion King,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Star Wars: Episode IX,” but don’t underestimate the appeal of cinema’s most beloved monster. Godzilla is returning to the big screen in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” directed by Michael Dougherty. The movie is the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ acclaimed 2014 “Godzilla,” which grossed over $520 million worldwide.

The blockbuster hopeful features a star-studded cast, including Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins,

Richard Madden Didn’t Make It to the ‘Game of Thrones’ Reunion Special

  • The Wrap
The Starks will be short at least one family member on the upcoming “Game of Thrones” reunion special featuring current and former cast members, as Richard Madden has confirmed that he was not able to participate in the highly-anticipated event.

Madden — who played Ned and Catelyn Stark’s eldest son Robb Stark aka the Young Wolf for three seasons on the HBO series (before that nasty Red Wedding) — told Entertainment Weekly that he couldn’t make it to the taping earlier this year in Belfast. Apparently, he chose to work on “Rocketman,” the upcoming Elton John biopic, over his (on-screen) family, in this case.

“I didn’t do any of that,” Madden told EW. “I was [filming] ‘Rocketman’ so I wasn’t able to do that.”

Warner Bros & ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Helmer Jon M. Chu To Tell Screen Story Of Journey Singer Arnel Pineda

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Warner Bros is re-teaming with its Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu to chronicle the journey of Arnel Pineda, a Filipino singer rescued from obscurity by a YouTube video that led him to become the lead singer of the iconic ’80s arena rock band Journey. Discovered on YouTube by Journey co-founder Neal Schon, who’d finally found the rare singer able to reliably replicate the soaring vocals of exited original lead singer Steve Perry, Pineda revived Journey and put the band back in stadiums once again. Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen will produce, and the search for a writer is underway.

The studio is negotiating to license the original Journey tunes, most written by Perry and Schon, and Warner Bros has acquired rights to Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey. That was the 2012 documentary that chronicled Pineda’s impossible rise. Chu’s vision is to make
