Rajkumar Hirani, Acclaimed Indian Film Director, Faces Sex Harassment Accusation

Bollywood fans reacted in shock today at a report that Rajkumar Hirani, one of India’s most successful and acclaimed filmmakers, has been accused by an actress of sexual harassment.

Hirani has denied the allegations and no lawsuit has been filed. He is best known as the director of Hindi language films Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Lage Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots, Pk, and Sanju. The films have won multiple awards in India and are regarding as groundbreaking.

The allegation arises from an alleged series of incidents involving a female assistant director who worked on the 2018 film Sanju, a biopic of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt that was released in June 2018. The film has since grossed $83 million worldwide and has six nominations at the upcoming Asian Film Awards, including a best director nod for Hirani.

The unidentified woman said Hirani sexually abused her more than once between March and September 2018 during post-production on Sanju.

Rajkumar Hirani to direct Sanjay Dutt biopic?

Rajkumar Hirani to direct Sanjay Dutt biopic?
Mumbai, March 25: The story of Sanjay Dutt's life is likely to go on the screen and, if all goes well, director Rajkumar Hirani and actor Ranbir Kapoor would come together for the first time to tell the highs and lows in the 54-year-old star's life.

The decision was reportedly taken around a week before Sanjay returned to Pune's Yerawada Jail after his parole period ran out.

"Maanyata bhabhi (Sanjay's wife) was keen on a film being made on her husband's life for Sanjay Dutt Productions. But the couple wanted only Rajkumar Hirani to direct the film as Sanju sir has created magic with Raju (Hirani) in 'Munnabhai M.B.B.S.".

Shahrukh was the Original choice for Munnabhai

Shahrukh was the Original choice for Munnabhai
Mumbai: The King Khan Srk as Munnabhai M.B.B.S. is such a laughable idea but it was him precisely who Vidhu Vinod Chopra had in mind while the casting for the film was being done. And indeed if it were not for Shah Rukh’s persistent back pain problems, Chopra would have had his way and Srk would have been our Munnabhai.

As of today, it is quite hard to think of, let alone imagine, even Srk for that matter, stepping into Sanjay Dutt’s shoes. Sanju baba’s portrayal of the endearingly lovable gangster is undoubtedly irreplaceable. It is funny to know therefore that Srk was being considered as the first choice for the lead role of Munna. In fact, Chopra says that Shah Rukh Khan was and has always been his first choice for the lead role in all his films. He went on to add that Shah Rukh.
