Storyline

In 1993, the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence Project receives a transmission detailing an alien DNA structure, along with instructions on how to splice it with human DNA. The result is Sil, a sensual but deadly creature who can change from a beautiful woman to an armour-plated killing machine in the blink of an eye. Government agent Xavier Fitch assembles a team of scientists and mercenaries to locate and destroy Sil before she manages to find a mate and breed. Trivia

In August 1995, a woman named Madelyne Tolentino from Canóvanas, Puerto Rico allegedly spotted the chupacabra, which supposedly had killed several animals in the last months. Tolentino later admitted she actually described Sil, the creature from this movie, and believed the events depicted were actually happening in her town. See more »

Goofs

The Porter on the train is a rather large lady. Yet her uniform almost perfectly fits Sil when she leaves the train. Correction: The conductor's uniform is actually a very bad fit on Sil, just as the coat she takes from her first lover. And the clothes she initially steals before the cocoon. Besides limited choices, Sil doesn't really understand how to dress - only that she's covered. See more »

Kind of cool and pleasant.....
29 September 2001 | by gridoonSee all my reviews

"Species" has a hopelessly derivative premise that makes it a completely unnecessary view for anyone who has ever seen "Alien" or "The Predator" (or their sequels), but it does have some things going for it. To be short and specific: Natasha Henstridge is dreamily, extraordinarily beautiful; the rest of the cast is distinguished, with a very cool Michael Madsen stealing the show; the special effects are convincingly yucky; and the pacing is fast and unrelenting, with the "search-and-destroy" team being always only one step behind the pursued alien "monster". A forgettable film, but not nearly as bad as many reviews have suggested. (**)
